Morgana's Red Dress

Morgana's red dress first appears in Season 2 with the episode 3 .
We often find this dress with the red velvet cape.

The dress is composed of one simple dress (bustier dress maybe)
made of linen fabric and over it a
red velvet bolero with embroideries.

At the end of the sleeves of the bolero and along the collar we can find silk- chiffon fabric.

There is one golden metal button at each sleeve (at the end of the sleeve between the velvet and chiffon fabric).

DO IT YOURSELF :

For the dress, I used the Butterick 4827 pattern model A and lightly changed the collar shape. For the bolero, you can use the Burda 2526 pattern model B and change the collar shape and the bolero length.

You will need about 3,5 meters of red linen fabric (without lining) for the dress and about 1,5-2 meters of red velvet fabric.

You will need 2 gold metal buttons and a red invisible zip (or hooks / straps).

For the embroidery, you need to buy : needles for hand-embroiding, 3 threads / yarns (red, silver and gold color), (about 25) white beads, red transparent diamond-shaped - crystal beads(2 different sizes), gold sequins, silver sequins and ocher / ochre color sequins.

BOLERO PART :

I lightly changed the collar shape to make one bigger and lower. Then I cut the chiffon into strips. For the sleeve I only sewed it to the sleeve tip, and along the collar, I first creased the fabric in using a simple hand-stitch then I sewed it to the collar (with the hem).

I made the embroidery once all the bolero was sewed. I recommend you to first draw the embroidery on paper before starting the embroidery to make it clear for you. I started the main shape with the white thread then the gold thread (in using the embroidery stitch : "")
Moreover, I made the "leafs" shape with the ocher sequins, then the "hearts" shape with the gold one and finished by sewing the silver sequins. Then I sewed the red and white beads.

WARNING : As you can see, on the lower part of the embroidery the gold embroidery stitch (which makes a branch) is wrapped by a red thread (feel free to add it to your embroidery).

*Once your embroidery made, you can add a zip or hooks to the bolero.

LINKS FOR TUTORIALS :
*Wrapped Pearls
* Embroidery for Beginners (the blending embroidery floss "3:35" for the gold wrapped with red)
*Hand Embroidery for Beginners ( the chain stitch "6:32" is, according to me, the better stitch for the main shape with the silver thread. But you need to do smaller stitches). For the gold thread, check the leather stitch "7:23".

Morgana's Red Velvet Cape

Morgana's Red Cape first appears in Season 2 with the episode 03.
It also exists another one (red cape) without hood in the first season.
The cape was made of red velvet fabric and lined with ivory/white crinkled taffetas for the hood and maybe white velvet for the upper lined part of the cape.

The cape is tied thanks to a tie and a kind of jewel made in the same way as filigree jewels. I guess they used a silver metallic thread, green stones and maybe gold-bronze sequins. They also made an embroidery of white pearls.

The colors of the "embroidery" is a kind of grey-light gold, depending on the picture.

Do It Yourself :

I used the Simplicity 5794 Pattern Model B and change the hood pattern to make one bigger for a better drop of the hood.

You will need about 6 meters of red velvet.
If you want to line the cape, you have two choices :

  • You can line all the cape with only one fabric (white velvet or white taffetas) so you'll need 6 meters of this fabric.
  • You can line the cape with 1,5 meters of white crinkled taffetas, and 4,5 (or 5) meters of white velvet for the remainder.

To tie the cape, you will need a tie covered with a red fabric (you can find it in a dry goods / haberdashery).
The shape of the tie is like the picture on the left.

Then, If you want to make the embroidery, I suggest to embroider the white/grey beads and make the metal structure/shape with polymer clay or harden clay and resign and to glue it / or embroider it if you can, on the collar of the cape.

Morgana's Green Dress

This Morgana Dress appears in the episode 08 of the first season, and then you find it in season 2 and 3.
It seems that it exists 2 versions of this dress :
  • One very simple with a gold belt which has diamond-shaped motifs on it.
  • The Second one with the same basic dress with a simple gold belt and elements sewed all along the collar ( it looks like blue-green beetle wings jewelry).
The necklace she has with this dress always change, so I will make a special post about her jewelry.
As you can see, the dress is totally made with the same green fabric, but there is a violet fabric for the inner coat of the sleeve.
There are about 80 (or more) rhinestones ("beetles ailes / wings") along the collar.
The violet fabric could be purple satin-silk, and the green fabric is hard to guess.
I was trying to make this dress, and I didn't know what it could be. I thought it was a knit, wool fabric, but it's not the case. So, I sent a message to the costume designer, Charlotte Morris and she answered me that :
"The dress was actually made from a heavy woven textured silk that we dyed green."

So I made my researches and I found that It could be Tussah silk ( an Indian silk) or what we call "raw silk". This kind of silk is often made in Asia : Cambodia or India. After many researches, I suggest to search "Ahimsa indian fabric" : it really has the raw thing like tweed I was looking for.

Do It Yourself :

To make this dress, I suggest you to use the Burda 7977 Pattern which is a pattern for historical costume.

There's also the pattern for the belt you can use. You will need to change the collar shape to make one bigger.
You will need around 4 or 5 meters of green heavy woven textured silk.
For the belt, you can make one with fabrics. I used gold silk to make the belt. (around 2 meters to have a very long belt around your waist).

For the jewelry, I would recommend you to make your own rhinestones with resin and blue or green stained glass paint. And then I would glue them all along the collar with "Neoprene Glue". Or just search on esty "beetle wings jewelry" :D

Morgana's Green Cape

Morgana's green cape first appears in the last episode of the first season ( ep 13).
The cape was made of green velvet panne and the brooch is made with two parts of gold metal brooches with white beads and both are linked thanks to a gold chain with a big black oval bead.
To tie the cape when it comes to the neck : a yellow tie is sewed ( a kind of cord).

Do It yourself :

For the cape, I used the Simplicity 5794 Pattern, Model B and I lightly changed the hood pattern of the cape to make one bigger to get a better drop of the hood.

You will need about 6 meters of velvet panne to make the cape. If you want to line it, make sure you have about 10 meters at least.

For the Brooch, I bought metal chains and I did the brooch with polymer clay as FIMO and glue beads on it.

I would recommend to make a kind of pattern for each different parts of the brooch (the bottom, and the upper part which makes an "8" with beads in the middle of the "8") and make the final piece with resin to get the metal aspect
